Gap of Dunloe Holly Hike Dec 13th.
On Sunday last the club had its 34th Annual Holly Walk – to the Gap Of Dunloe; despite all the recent inclement weather, we managed to get a dry day, and had three walks. Gerry O’Connell led the easy hillwalk and hiked up the ziz zag path to Strickeen. Pat Sheehan led the short hike which walked up to the head of the gap and then climbed up to the Glas Lough. The moderate hillwalk led by Donal O’Leary climbed to Tomies Rock and Tomies Mountain.
It was great to get out after all the rain and all who were out hiking enjoyed the day immensely.
In the evening there was the now customary warming mulled wine and mince pies as well as a Geansai Nollaig competition. While the number of entrants was smaller than last year, the standard was excellent; well done to all who participated. However, there could only be one winner, so our panel of judges scrutinised the photos and took a careful review of each of the entrants, and in the end, the majority decision was in favour of John O’Sullivan. A big thank you to all who took part.
