The Committee

Every year the members elect the committee at the Annual General Meeting. The AGM takes place in September/October. Each committee member takes on a particular portfolio or role such as treasurer, membership, public relations etc. For each Sunday hillwalk a committee member is appointed the organiser. Their job is to take the names of people going on the walk and organise walk leaders for each walk as well as booking the coffee stop venue.

Club Aims

The Cork Backpackers Hillwalking Club is a not for profit hillwalking club. It is owned by its members and managed on their behalf by a committee. Each September/October at their AGM members elect a committee and all members are eligible for election to the committee. Its primary aims are to promote all forms of hiking, hillwalking, mountaineering and rock climbing.

Social Events

Apart from the Sunday hillwalks the committee organises many other events during the year. The club is also active socially and events include a Christmas Party, Summer Barbecue, Treasure Hunt, Table Quiz, Film Nights, Halloween Party and Holly Walk among others. There is an Annual General Meeting in September where members elect a new committee to run the club during the year.   We encourage members to assist the club whenever possible and to volunteer to join the committee.

In summary, there is friendship, amazing landscapes, exercise, a sense of achievement, socialising, “craic” and a host of other benefits.
