Walk Report Sunday 26th April

Moderate walk Sun 26th April. Led by Nuala Hayden, the walk started from Kate Kearney’s, from there we headed back out the gap road to Moriarty’s gate and onto a track, we then proceeded to climb towards Tomies Rock from the northern side, then on over to Tomies mountain, where we had our lunch. After lunch we headed over to Purple mountain, and descended just short of the gap cottage, and proceeded to walk the 4.5kms back to our start point at Kate Kearney’s. Our total walk time for the day was approx 6.5hrs

Short walk led by Gerry O’Connell:

Start point was Kate Kearney’s, heading up the gap road past the Black lake, from here ascending to Tomies mountain, then on over to Tomies rock, and descending to the track that leads to Moriarty’s gate, then back onto the gap to make the return to Kate Kearney’s.

Pat Sheehan led the easy walk last Sunday 26/04/2015. A very easy walk in; Tomies wood was selected as it was” Family and Friends” day and we had to be mindful of the presence of children and of possibly unfit adults on the walk. We had 17 walkers in total. 14 adults and 3 children, aged 9,10 and 11 years. We set off in a convoy of 4 cars from Kate Kearney’s to Tomies about 3k away.

At about 11.15.am, in glorious sunshine we set off on our walk, which was a flat loop walk on the path through Tomies Wood which Sean Higgison describes in one of his booklets and estimates it to be about 8K in length.

We took one diversion from the path, to view O, Sullivan’s cascade and to take in the view by the lakeshore.

We had our lunch where the path starts its loop return back, there is a lovely view over Lough Leane from here.

We got back to the cars at about 2.45pm, with family and friends and kids seemingly happy with their day out.
