A letter from Ruth Whelan to all Hillwalking Club Secretaries regarding the forthcoming Mountaineering Ireland AGM.
As you might have seen through our social media forums, The Limerick Climbing Club will be hosting this year’s Mountaineering Ireland Spring Gathering. The event will take place over the weekend of the 23rd to 25th March and will be based out of Aherlow House Hotel and Lodges, Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary. We wish to encourage representatives from all clubs affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland to participate in the event, so please put the date in your diary!

Mountaineering Ireland AGM
As part of the Spring Gathering, the Mountaineering Ireland AGM will be held on Saturday March 24th at 5.30pm at (Diarmuid & Grainne Ballroom Suite), Glen of Aherlow, Co Tipperary. The AGM is a key opportunity for all members, club and individual members, to agree Mountaineering Ireland’s policy. It is also an opportunity influence the administration of your representative body. We encourage all clubs to send two delegates to the AGM. Clubs with a membership greater than 100 have additional voting rights (an additional delegate per additional 50 members).
Individual members get a vote each, but if there are more than 20 individual members at the Gathering, a meeting will be facilitated half an hour before the AGM to let the individual members decide how to cast their 20 votes.
Please note that motions for discussion at the AGM and nominations for the Board should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org by 5.00pm on Friday February 23rd (can also be sent by post). The Board of Mountaineering Ireland is elected every two years and is responsible for the overall management of the organisation. Any Member Club or any 3 Full Members can submit motions for discussion and put forward nominations for the Board.
In addition a Members’ Forum will take place following the AGM on Saturday 6:45pm. Again the Members’ Forum, like the AGM, is for all members. Furthermore the Members’ Forum is a key part of Mountaineering Ireland’s democratic process where clubs and members can put forward items they would like to discuss. This is often the catalyst for further examination or the consideration of a campaign or further action. We encourage all members to attend this forum. You can submit items for discussion by email to email@example.com.
Finally please note that there are three workshops running on the Sunday including a club development workshop and a training workshop. Please see information pack attached for full details: Spring Gathering 2018 information pack
Can you please circulate this email and the links above through your social media channels to encourage members to attend the full weekend if possible but if not to encourage at least two delegates to the AGM itself.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Look forward to seeing you there.
