June Weekend 2015 – Gleann Dá Loch

For those who were in Glendalough over the June Weekend 2015 we hope you have recovered from all the walking and cycling!

On Saturday there were two walks to Lugnaquillia – 925m (Log na Coille) which provided a great opportunity for those interested in completing the Club Challenge Walks. The Easy Walk was lead by Charlie Corrigan who approached the mountain from the eastern side (Glenmalure), and the Moderate Walk came from the western side (Glen of Imaal Artillery Range). Well done to all who completed the Challenge Walk.

For a bit of variety, the Short Walk numbering 14, and lead by Gerry O’Connell, choose to walk from the door of the hostel into the Wicklow National Park for a walk which eventually took us to Lugduff via Derrybawn Mountain and Mullacor, with the final leg down the Spink. A few of those on the walk were asking for statistics: the walk was a little over 17km in length with a total climb of 812m.

On Saturday night 49 people sat down to a meal in Casey’s Hotel in Glendalough only a few hundred metres from the hostel, and a great evening was had by all.

There were a number of walks on the Sunday, one of which walked up the Spink, and also a cycle around Ashford and onto Vartry Reservoir (distance was 53 km).

No weekend away is possible without a lot of hard work and help: various people need to be thanked, including the leaders (Donal O’Leary and Charlie Corrigan), for the shopping there was great assistance from Anthony O’Sullivan and Jennifer O’Sullivan, and of course all those who assisted with washing up, cleaning up and cooking!

Looking forward to the next weekend…..

Gerry O’Connell & Amanda Daunt
