Fei Sheehy Challenge 2018

You may have heard of the Fei Sheehy Challenge which took place for the first time in 2014. It is a three day, self-navigating hill walking challenge to ‘cross’ the Comeragh, Galtee and Knockmealdown mountain ranges. More importantly though, it’s about a father, a family, a memory and a legacy of a little girl, Fei Sheehy, who died far too young.

Fei is the daughter of Ger Sheehy and was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2011 and died in 2012, aged 8. Her dad Ger took up hill walking two months after her death and decided to organise a tough hill walking challenge in her memory to raise money for Voluntary and Charitable Organisations. This is the third year of the challenge and in the last four years we’ve raised €60,000, says Ger who is a financial advisor.

Pre-registered participants can elect to do one, two or three days and the money raised via registration fees is donated to charities/voluntary organisations. If you would like to raise funds for a charity of your own choosing, via sponsorship card or online, you can also do this.

We’ve decided to run the event again this year (17th, 18th, 19th August). Pre-registration is open and we have 14 more registered this year than on the same date last year . If you log on to the website http://www.feisheehychallenge.net/registration.html you can pre-register now. Numbers are limited.

Club Challenge

There is a perpetual cup on offer for any club that is interested in taking on this challenge. The current holders of the trophy are Wayfarers Hiking Club. In 2017 they took the title with 15 points (a point for each day that a walker completed a crossing). All 5 of their members/participants did 3 days.

If you and your club are interested in taking this Club Challenge on, please contact me –

If reading about these challenges is getting you all revved up then you be delighted to know that the club will be holding its own challenge event in 2018 building on the success of our own four peaks challenge over the past few years….details to follow soon.

On the other hand if all this makes you want to lie down and communion with your own inner light our own Aileen Warbrook might have something right up your street. She will be running a Yoga and Tai Chi retreat in Greece in September 2018. You can check out all the details on:

If that or just the fact it’s January and got you thinking about booking some trips away for the year after our successful trip in Snowdon Wales the club is again planning to spread its wings this June weekend. We will update you soon. We also know that some of our club members like to band together and head off on the occasional adventure so if we get wind of any good ones we will let you know!

Details about the Easter weekend away will also be coming out in the next few weeks.

So we have lots planned for you this year. In the more immediate future, I know our social officers are looking at a little something to help beat the January blues.  Will be sending out a mail on this next week and anything else that crops up!
