New Members Night
Club news: Thank you to everybody who attended & helped with the new members welcome night on Wednesday 19th October in Counihan’s Pub.
We had a very successful night. There were great spot prizes won on the night.
It was good to see so many new and existing members coming along to participate and to support the event.
Walk Report Sunday 9th October 2016 – Hungry Hill Walk (Fr Frank Memorial Walk)
The Hungry Hill walk is dedicated to Fr. Frank, who was an enthusiastic member of the club, for many years and who died on Oct 12th 2003. He is fondly remembered each year around his anniversary.
The Short & Moderate walkers ascended Hungry Hill, taking different routes.
The Easy Walkers went from Rosssmackowen to the Glas Loughs and back.
It was a beautifully calm and sunny day & great day for hill walking.
Walk Report Sunday 23rd October 2016– Gougane Barra
Sean Keane, our Walk Leader, led us off from Cronin’s at Gougane Barra, at a nice pace. We headed up for Lough Glas, where we had lunch, before we started our descent. We walked 7km approx & ascended 550m.
The short walk was led by Gerry O Connell and started outside Cronin’s with 19 walkers. They covered a distance of 11.4km and gained a height of 563m. From the top, clear views were had of Gougane Barra.
Gregory O Hare led the Moderate walk & started from outside Cronin’s. We took the road as far as Coomclogh, and shortly we started our assent to the county boundaries, which we followed as far as Coomroe. We passed Loughs Glas; Lough Fada and Lough Namrat and then started our decent, passing Foilastookeen and then, followed the waymarks back to the start. The walk took 4 ½ hours approx.
In total there were 52 walkers out. Later, we headed back to the Castle Hotel in Macroom for very nice food.Thanks to all our leaders.
October Weekend to Tralee, Co. Kerry
The Club is heading to Tralee, Co. Kerry, for the weekend 28th -31st Oct 2016, staying at the Tralee Holiday Lodge, Mary St, Tralee.
